Herbarium Collage Kit
Introducing Retrollage, Peruvian Collagist
/DRI:M/ARTZ: Can you tell me a little about yourself?
RETROLLAGE: Hello, my name is Patricia Alcántara Larco. I am a 32 years old Peruvian lawyer by profession and self-taught analogue collage artist for the past 6 years. I am very keen on music, nature, movies, and art in general. I created Retrollage from my love of retro stuff + collage art.
DA: What inspired you to make collage kits?
R: I started making collage kits for my students and workshops—I wanted them to have a nice starter pack to cut and paste.

DA: What gave you the idea to offer them to the collage community?
R: I think it's a popular thing nowadays to make nice templates for sharing with everyone, following a topic or theme.
DA: How do you go about designing the templates? Do you offer specific themes?
R: Yes, for now I have been making my templates following certain themes, like botanic, vintage elements, and such. I normally select the items and put them together nicely.

DA: Are they analogue bits? Digital? Snail mailed and/or downloaded?
R: There is a bit of everything. Some analogue bits that I digitalize, as well as digital bits also. In the 6 years I have been collecting a lot of images for my image source bank. I can tell you, I am a true fan of the Biodiversity Heritage Library flick account database and all free online image databases! The internet has a lot to offer, depending on what you are looking for.

DA: What do the kits cost? Are they free of charge?
R: The kits have different costs—they go from 10$ to 25$, depending on the materials and contents. I also have shared free templates online that anyone can download and print themselves. For my online workshops, I send my students templates so they can print them at home, covid-free.
DA: Any future projects that you are working on?
R: Yes, thankfully, I am working on a couple “windows” collage series and new collage kits and workshops. I am also considering having live interviews in the future with fellow artists to share our points of views and inspirations. And, maybe, making a tarot card deck or agenda/calendar for next year! The sky is the limit, haha.

DA: Is there anything else you would like to share with your fans?
R: I absolutely adore and love collage art. I find it to be very therapeutic and cathartic—the best way to express yourself. I recommend it to EVERYONE. One of the reasons I started teaching collage workshops is because I want to share that awesome feeling one gets when you cut and paste a piece—it's unbelievable. As a life motto, I encourage people to do yoga + collage, they are the perfect match.
