Vintage Ephemera Kit by Florencia Prats
/DRI:M/ARTZ: Can you tell me a little about yourself?
Florencia Prats: I am Florencia Prats and I am a collage artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been living in Berlin for the past 8 years. I have my own shop, Kabinett, where I mostly sell original antique prints, among other things, such as the ephemera packs.
DA: What inspired you to make collage kits?
FP: 2020 was a tough year for many. I, myself, have unfortunately lost my main source of income. Once I had Kabinett as an Etsy store up and running, I realised that I have a lot of material that I will not use and that it would be a great item to feature. Besides, they are super fun to put together!
DA: What gave you the idea to offer them to the collage community?
FP: I follow a lot of fellow collage artists, especially the handmade/analogue collage type, and, judging by the materials that I see them use, I figured that ephemera packs might be of interest to them, especially as many stores are closed in a lot of cities and places around the world. It can become trickier to find good materials to work with and packs have a bit of everything, so, instead of having to acquire different books and magazines, you can purchase an already curated mix of materials.

DA: How do you go about designing the templates? Do you offer specific themes?
FP: I don't work with specific themes but there is definitely a feeling of "this kit has been curated and selected by Bicéfala", almost like a bit of a brand thing. Fellow collage artists know what my style is and what I myself use, so I guess most know what to expect.
DA: Are they analogue bits? Digital? Snail mailed and/or downloaded?
FP: I only work with real, physical, vintage papers that are, at least, pre-1980s.
DA: What do the kits cost? Are they free of charge?
FP: It's 10 EUR a 50-piece pack. It takes me a long time to assemble them and to make sure that they have a well-balanced amount of everything, that they catch the eye, are presentable, and will satisfy the customer.
DA: Any future projects that you are working on?
FP: Not related to ephemera kits, no. As an entrepreneur, I am always working on Kabinett, but there is no other project. As an artist, I am proud to announce that I am now an active member of the Berlin Collage Platform, a collective of collage artists living in Germany. It is just getting started and I am super excited about it!
